Gary is a partner of the Firm. He has over twenty-five years of solid legal and business experience working with sophisticated individuals, companies, and firms.
Gary spent the first seventeen years working in the Los Angeles area with such notable law firms as Paul Hastings (where he was partner) and Brobeck, Phelger & Harrison, handling creditor’s rights and bankruptcy cases as well as real estate and lending transactions.
His expertise includes managing complex, nationwide commercial real-estate restructuring and bankruptcies for institutional lenders and private equity firms, covering a wide spectrum of properties including hotels, office buildings, apartments, condominiums, and luxury resorts. He also represents creditors in Chapter 11 reorganizations and Chapter 7 liquidations and advises banks and private equity lenders on loan sales and purchases, loan participations, loan documents and secured transactions.
In 2000, Gary changed the focus of his career to become in-house counsel, including Senior Counsel at City National Bank, then Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Downey Financial Corporation and Downey Savings; a $16 billion, NYSE traded company that had nearly 200 retail banking locations and over 2,500 employees, then general counsel of a $1 billion, privately owned real estate company. In his role as an executive, manager and business person, Gary drove significant efficiency from his outside legal firms and consultants producing better results at reduced costs.
