Laurie Murphy was a guest panel speaker at the Southern California Mediation Association’s (“SCMA”) Annual Conference, which took place at the Malibu campus of Pepperdine University’s Law School on November 7, 2009. This year’s theme was “M3: The Next Generation of Mediation” and Ms. Murphy spoke on the topic of “Negotiation and Mediation in the Feminine Voice: What Can we Learn from our Women Colleagues?” The presentation discussed some of the latest studies on male/female differences in linguistics and body language and provided valuable insight for mediators of both genders. The panel also discussed how mediators might be more effective in addressing the particular needs of women lawyers or women as clients, as well as offered some tips and techniques for translating between Mars and Venus.
