Michael Morris moderated a panel entitled "Music Publishing 2020: The Return of the Fabulous Brabec Brothers,” at the Music Publishing Panel of the California Copyright Conference, held Nov. 10 online.

Joining Michael were Jeff Brabec, Senior Vice President for Business and Legal Affairs of BMG Rights, and Todd Brabec, author, educatory, attorney and consultant.

Jeff specializes in evaluating, analyzing, projecting income and negotiating music publishing catalogue acquisitions. Todd, former ASCAP Executive Vice President and Worldwide Director of Membership, is an Entertainment Law attorney. Together they authored the best-selling book Music, Money, and Success: The Insider’s Guide to Making Money in the Music Business.

The panel discussed current pressing issues affecting the music publishing world.These include uses of music in television, movies, video games, and “catalogue musicals,” interactive streaming rates and developments, and new developments at ASCAP, BMI, GMR, and SESAC.

The California Copyright Conference, established in 1953, hosts discussions of copyright-related and other topics pertaining to music and entertainment. Its 300 members represent all areas of the music and entertainment industry.
