Michael Morris will moderate a panel discussion on the sale of music catalogs, hosted on Zoom by the California Copyright Conference on May 9 at 2:30 p.m.

The title of the session is “Anatomy of a Catalog Sale: Business, Legal and Tax Issues.”

Joining Mr. Morris as panelists will be Kris Muñoz, Senior Vice President, BMG Business & Legal Affairs — Publishing, at BMG; Heidy Vaquerano, Partner, Fox Rothschild LLP; and David Weitzman, Partner, Primary Wave Music.

U.S. recorded music revenues continued to grow in 2022 for a seventh consecutive year. This  healthy music publishing business has meant a vibrant market for the sale of music publishing catalogs and related rights.

The panel will discuss how various types of deals are being structured; parameters used to value catalogs; factors considered by buyers and sellers when contemplating a sale; market trends; and tax benefits for sellers of self-created music works.
